SAPPHIRE FUE HAIR TRANSPLANT
At WorldClinica we use the latest innovations offered in our branch of technology and science. The Sapphire method is an innovation in the FUE procedure and is performed similarly but according to higher medical standards. In the sapphire method, incisions on the recipient area are created by using blades made from a precious gemstone called sapphire, and not metal slit and this provides an easier and faster recovery after the surgery.
How is Sapphire FUE performed?
FUE with sapphire is not a technique in itself but an innovation in the FUE method. The sapphire blade has V-shaped pin as opposed to the regular U-shaped pin of steel blade, which is designed to minimize scab formation and to provide faster healing. In this method hair follicles are extracted one by one under local anesthesia with the help of special micropunches of size 0.6 -0.7, and 0,8 mm in diameter. The harvested grafts are placed in incisions to be created by sapphire blades. The incision part is the most important stage in the success of a hair transplantation due to the fact that incisions determine the angle, direction and density of hair follicles to be implanted. The incisions are opened with sharp, smooth and durable sapphire blade tips varying from 1.0 to 1.3-1.5 mm that creates closer and smaller incisions. Hair follicles should be placed at the skin-hair angle of 40-45 degrees and at the right direction of natural hair growth. If the follicles are transplanted perpendicular to the scalp, it will result in an unnatural pluggy look.
Advantages of Sapphire FUE
- Sapphire blades enable incisions to be on a smaller scale. As a result, the scarring after the procedure is less. Furthermore, the tissue damage is minimal so it recovers quicker and the skin remains softer
- The quality of the sapphire tools lowers the risk of trauma.
- The post-operative pain is minimal
- Lower risk of complications.
Disadvantages of Sapphire FUE
The main disadvantage of this technique is its price, it is more expensive in terms of the material used. Furthermore, the fact that it requires much more expertise makes the expenses greater than the traditional FUE transplant procedure.
Recovery and results
Following a Sapphire FUE, the first few days after the surgery the patient can expect mild swelling in the forehead area which usually begins on day three and will completely dissolve in a few days. The patient also develops small blood crusts at the transplanted area and these are expected to fall out completely 10 days after the procedure.
Patients are expected to resume their daily activitis within 48 hours of the surgery, however strenuous activities needs to be avoided for up to 4 weeks following your surgery. Shedding of the implanted hairs is to be expected within a couple of weeks after the procedure, and will then begin to re-grow after 3-4 months. The final results will typically be seen 12 months after the procedure, however by the fifth to sixth month the patient can expect to see considerable new growth. At WorldClinica we provide all patients with an after-care kit that include necessary supplies such as shampoo, foam, neck pillow, antibacterial cream, pain-killers and antibiotics.
